Soma Rathod, who plays the character Amma Ji in the comedy-drama Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, has become very well-known. However, she admits that her journey as an actor was never simple and that she had to deal with rejection and body shaming throughout her career.

Says Soma: "My career as an actor in this field has been like riding on a roller coaster. While it's likely that you've heard tales of actresses having operations or going through strict diets to lose weight in order to break into the business, my experience was different because I had to put on weight."

The actress explained that she was being turned down for roles because she was neither slim nor obese, so she made the decision to gain weight. "I was neither too thin nor too obese when I first chose to pursue acting and began attending auditions. Because I did not fulfil any of the requirements, I was rejected. Then one of my friends advised I put on weight to be classified among the oversized actors.

The actress, who has appeared in shows including "Pyar Me Thoda Twist" and "Jija Ji Chhat Par Hai," continued, "I acquired weight to get recognized by casting directors for plus-size roles that are not very prevalent in our business."

The 38-year-old actress was not only passed over, but also body shamed because of her weight, which was very upsetting to her. She uttered: "We feel like outsiders in this world when we are obese. People often make fun of our bodies. Even clothing in our sizes is unavailable since it is not produced."

Despite all of these obstacles, she never considered leaving the entertainment business. "Yes, it hurt, but I never gave the idea of leaving my job a thought. You have no right to make fun of me since I decided to be strong and made fun of my weight. Despite the fact that others may not share your courage, you should always accept and love yourself "She added.

The actress, who has established a name for herself in the business, claims that her "unique identity" is her weight, and she is not interested in removing it.

"Because it has given me a unique personality on Indian television, I am happy to play Amma Ji. When it comes to character, there aren't many people in my industry that can compete with me. Due to my weight, I have the advantage of playing roles that were created with me in mind "She spoke.

She proceeded by saying that at first, she was hesitant to accept the role of Amma Ji because it required her to play the mother of Manmohan Tiwari, who was played by Rohitashv Gour in the sitcom.

When the opportunity to portray a mother's role was presented to her, she admitted: "I was hesitant. I was requested to play Rohitashv Gour's mother, even though she is 20 years older than me and has 20 more years of professional experience than I do. But because they recognized the character's potential and my involvement, our director Shashank Bali and writer Manoj Santoshi pushed me to accept the role.”

And today, I can't express how grateful I am to them for giving me the role of Amma Ji, which has helped me become well-known. Personally, I find this character appealing. Nobody dares to interfere with her. She does, however, support her bahu rani (daughter-in-law) in a very special way. Sincerely, I wish that all real-life saasu maa (mothers-in-law) supported their husbands in a similar manner.

"My bond with Rohitashv Ji and Shubhangi Atre is beyond anyone's imagination," Rathod stated of her relationship with her co-stars Rohitashv and Shubhangi Atre. On set, we are sworn enemies and greatest buddies. I've always been a joyful, lively, and life-filled individual. Due to Rohitashv Ji's seniority, I used to be anxious about working with him at first, but he quickly made me feel at ease, and now we have a close relationship off-screen as well. While we are on set, we make an effort to interact with one another. And I enjoy creating humorous reels with the cast," she added.
