NEW DELHI: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday to address border security, the state's ongoing farmer protests, and the Bhakra Beas management board.

The meeting is scheduled for this afternoon. According to sources in the state government, he is likely to discuss border security and receive an update on the inquiry into the recent Rocket Propelled Grenade attack on state police intelligence headquarters in Mohali.

In addition, the ongoing farmers' protests near the Chandigarh-Mohali border, who are demanding a bonus on wheat prices, will be discussed. Mann is expected to speak about the Centre's decision to send officers from outside Punjab to two key posts in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMS).

On March 8, then-Congress Chief Minister Charanjit Sigh Channi met with Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and requested that the Centre reconsider its decision to appoint personnel in the BBMS from outside Punjab.

In February of this year, the Centre issued a notification amending the terms of the BBMS 1974 rule regarding the selection criterion for the recruitment of two senior officers in the Bhakra Beas Board from outside Punjab.
The two full-time members' roles i.e  member (power) and member (irrigation), have always been appointed by eligible individuals from Punjab and Haryana, respectively, from a panel of engineers nominated by their respective state governments, As per convention.
