The continuous rise in fuel price is one of the reasons for the opposition party to aim the Modi government. The Congress party has called for a nationwide strike on Monday, September 10, 2018, to protest against the increasing fuel prices in the country.

The strike

On Bharat Bandh from 9 am to 3 pm on Monday, September 10, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said they choose this timing so that the common man do not face inconvenience. The bandh will be observed in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar and Tami Nadu where the opposition parties have come out in support of the strike

Demand of the opposition

The opposition is demanding the Centre government to reduce the central excise duty and excessive VAT in the states as well as to bring the petrol and diesel under the ambit of GST, among other things.

Parties in support

The DMK in Tamil Nadu, the JDS(S) in Karnataka and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are in support of the strike. The Samajwadi Party and the National Congress Party (NCP) have also pledged their support for the bandh. On Sunday, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has also shown its support to the strike.

Parties in protest of the strike

TMK has decided to protest against the Bandh on Monday.   Muslim League in Kerala is also not participating in the strike. The Goa Congress unit has also said that it would not participate in the Bandh.
