NEW DELHI:  Central trade unions have called 48 hour long strike against the alleged anti-worker policies of Narendra Modi-led union government beginning Tuesday. The two-day-long strike is likely to have a great effect on Left-dominated states of Kerala and West Bengal.

Ten major trade unions to called nationwide strike protest against the  Modi government’s alleged anti-worker policies and unilateral labour reforms. According to source, nearly 20 crore workers of the state and central government are expected to support the nationwide strike.

The trade unions have received support from organisations like the AITUC, CITU, HMS, AIUTUC, TUCC, AICCTU, along with employees in the banking and insurance sector in this strike . Farm unions like All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) cand Bhumi Adhikar Andolan have joined the strike. The strike is supported by almost all major independent federations of central employees, state employees and the employees of different sectors including banks, insurance, telecom, and other service sectors.

Meanwhile, a number of trading organisations have rejected the call by the Central Trade Unions. RSS’ affiliate Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) will not participate in the strike tomorrow.

Officials in the Kerala Trade and Industries Coordination Forum have vowed not to participate in tomorrow’s strike. The Kerala Hotel and Restaurants Association, Kerala Textile and Garment Dealers Association, Kerala Travel Mart Society, and Bakers Association have also announced to not to join the strike.
