Good news for BJP regarding Kerala local body by-elections, wins this many seats

Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM-led LDF in Kerala has performed spectacularly in the local body by-elections after a hard-fought defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The LDF has won 22 seats in the by-elections held in 44 seats of the local body. The LDF snatched six seats from the Congress-led UDF, but it also lost seven seats at the hands of the UDF. Polling for these by-elections was held on Thursday.

There is also good news for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in this by-election. The party has won five seats. The UDF has won 17 seats. The ruling LDF in the state was wiped out in the Lok Sabha elections and won only one of the 20 parliamentary seats. The UDF had won 19 seats. The by-elections were held in 33 panchayat wards, six block panchayat wards and five municipal wards. In 2015, THE LDF had won 549 out of 591 Gram Panchayat wards, 90 out of 152 Block Panchayat wards.

Not only that, the LDF had won 7 out of 14 district panchayats.  In the municipality, the party had won 44 in 87 municipalities. Encouraged by the victory, CPI State Secretary Kanam Rajendran said, "Our party has proved that we cannot be ruled out by an election defeat alone.
