Protests continue in Delhi over demolition of Ravidas temple, 96 arrested so far

New Delhi: Protests have been going on since the Ravidas temple broke down on the Supreme Court's order in the national capital. Meanwhile, 96 people, including Bhim Army Chief Chandrasekhar, have been arrested and remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Chandrasekhar and others have been booked at Govindpuri police station under sections 147, 149, 186 and 332 of the IPC.

In fact, the temple of Sant Ravidas in Tughlakabad area was ordered to be demolished by the top court. Then, on August 10, the DDA demolished it. It is believed that the great saint of the 15th century Ravidas stayed at this place for three days. In protest against the demolition of the temple, the Dalit society staged a protest march from Ambedkar Bhawan which left for Tughlakabad via Ramlila Maidan. According to police, violent clashes broke out at the site of peaceful demonstrations in the rally. Police resorted to tear gas and aerial firing.

Police said, some vehicles were also damaged by the protesters. The demonstration against the demolition of the temple included congressmen and your sworkers along with the Bhim Army. The protesters were not allowed to go to the temple site, but they tried to get there. According to police, the protesters also threw stoned and tried to reach the site of the temple by hanging the wall.
