Bhima- Koregaon violence: 43 arrested due to 2,000 video recordings

New Delhi: Police have under arrested 43 people together with 3 minors till now in links with Bhima- Koregaon violence.

The development appears a day after the police claimed to consider over 2,000 video recordings of incidents of defacement in the district for the duration of the Maharashtra shutdown on January 3.

Two days after the violence in opposition to the Dalits who were visiting the war commemorative at Bhima Koregaon in Pune district, Dalit leader and Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh president Prakash Ambedkar had issued call for a state-wide Bandh.

A number of places in the state, together with Mumbai, witnessed defacement and fire-raising during the Bandh. "We have recovered over 2,000 video footage. These videos were either captured with video cameras by police personnel on duty, on mobile phones or CCTV cameras.

"People from various communities are helping us identify these hooligans," said a police officer from the headquarters of the Pune Rural Police.

 He informed that Forty-three people have been send in detention center so far in different parts of the district.

For now, the state government on Tuesday handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of Rahul Phatangale, who was dead during the violence at Bhima Koregaon on January 1.
