Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Jan. 3 (NT): Section 144 has been forced in Maharashtra's Thane region till midnight of January 4, due to the statewide shutdown called by the dalit outfits, protesting in opposition to the Bhima-Koregaon violence.

The protestors even stop the progress of the trains at Thane railway station pertaining to the same.

"Few protestors tried to disrupt railway services at Thane but were immediately cleared by RPF and GRP officials. Services are running uninterrupted on Central Railway as of now" informs Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Central Railway as quoted by ANI.

Massive security forces have been set up in Ghatkopar's Ramabai Colony and Eastern Express Highway to monitor in any case of violence.

Violence dropped over neighboring parts of Maharashtra after conflicts broke out between the Dalits and alleged right-wing outfits on Monday throughout the bicentenary carnival of the Bhima-Koregaon battle near Pune.

The right-wing groups had objections to the celebration of 'Victory Day' since they considered it to be an anti-national festivity.

Both RSS and BJP are being pointed the finger to each other of instigating the violence by opposition leaders.

In the fight, which was exchanged blows between the British East India Company, containing Dalits in its infantry, and the Peshwas, who were upper-caste Brahmins, at Koregaon Bhima on January 1, 1818, the Marathas at last departed. Since then, the lower-caste communities have been observing it as a symbolic win for themselves. (NT)
