Varanasi: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is claiming to have discovered a new technology that would be inexpensive, accurate and give the results of a corona probe in 4-6 hours. It has been developed jointly by research students and associate professors of BHU's Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Varanasi.

The department's Associate Professor Dr. Geeta Rai and her team say that their technique works on RT-PCR and on this principle there is no other technology in the country to test for corona virus. It targets a unique protein sequence that is present only in the corona and is not present in any other viral strain. Prior inspection by the Indian Patent Office found that there is no RT-PCR-based test kit in the country targeting such protein sequences.

Dr Geeta Rai has claimed that these tests can meet all the criteria given the lack of accurate, specific, rapid and inexpensive kits for the growing state of corona infection in the country. Dr. Geeta Rai said that the kits being tested are not 100 percent accurate, due to which, other than Corona, any existing viral infections are also being given the current test kit positive. There is still a struggle that some specific kit will come in the market. For this reason, we thought of making a specific kit.
