Washington: The White House announced on Friday that US President Joe Biden has accepted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's offer to deliver the annual State of the Union address to Congress on March 1.

Pelosi invited Biden to give a statement and requested him to "discuss your perspective of the State of the Union" in a letter addressed to him on Friday.

"The President has accepted the Speaker of the House's invitation to deliver the State of the Union address on Tuesday, March 1, 2022," Karine Jean-Pierre, the President's principal deputy press secretary, told reporters travelling with him to Colorado on Friday, according to state media reports. The State of the Union address is an annual tradition in which Presidents present their goals and agenda for the coming year.

Since 1934, all-State of the Union addresses have been delivered in January or February, so if Biden makes the speech on March 1, it will be a month later than the typical timing for the annual address.
