WASHINGTON: The U.S President Joe Biden announced that women travelling for abortions across the country will be protected by the State government as millions of women have lost their constitutional reproductive rights after the Supreme Court overturned its 50-year-old Roe v Wade decision.

The President stated that his administration will also "guarantee access to medicines that caused abortion in jurisdictions where it was forbidden" while speaking to a virtual gathering of Democratic Governors on Friday,  BBC reported.

He also stated that he believed some states would try to arrest women who travelled across state lines to have abortions. "People probably don't think that will happen. But it will take place, "The President was reported by the BBC as saying.

The historic ruling that established a constitutional right to abortion in the country was overturned by the Supreme Court on June 24. After considering an appeal case concerning a Mississippi statute that forbade all abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy except in specified instances, the Supreme Court reached its conclusion.

Since the court's ruling, access to abortions has already been severely restricted or prohibited in thirteen states.
