The Science Advisor to US President Joe Biden, Arati Prabhakar on July 21 said that the US and like-minded countries including India need to work together for shaping the course of artificial intelligence.   The US administration has already engaged major IT giants such as Google and Microsoft to ensure responsible usage of AI for the greater good.

During a media interaction, Prabhakar, an Indian-American, revealed the ongoing efforts to hold companies accountable and the encouraging progress in that regard. She also disclosed plans for executive actions within the confines of existing laws, along with the President contemplating an executive order to strengthen their capacity to address the potential harms of AI while leveraging its potential benefits.

Prabhakar fondly recalled an amusing anecdote from Prime Minister Modi's address to Congress in the United States, where he humorously interpreted AI as symbolizing "America, India" – a playful twist on its significance.

Notably, Joe Biden announced voluntary commitments from seven leading AI companies, including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and other smaller entities. This collective initiative marks a pivotal moment, as the industry is coming together to shoulder responsibility for their AI-related actions.

The Science Advisor also emphasized the paramount importance of AI as the most powerful technology of our time. She echoed the President's stance that its usage should align with the nation's values, as reported by various sources.
