Gwalior: Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced the withdrawal of cases of violence over atrocities act in the Gwalior-Chambal division ahead of the 2018 assembly elections. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan's decision will have a direct impact on the politics of the Gwalior-Chambal region. It is also being seen as being linked to the preparations for the 2023 assembly elections. There was a dispute between Dalits and upper castes over the Atrocity Act.  

Thereafter, cases were registered against both parties. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that due to some misunderstanding, this situation had become. In the past, people from both communities met him in Gwalior. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was also present. In 2018, after a dispute between upper castes and Dalits, the upper castes who were booked under the Atrocity Act, while the Dalits were also booked. The government has decided to take them all back.
 
The Supreme Court had said about the SC/ST Act that there should be no immediate arrest in these cases and action should be taken only after the initial investigation. Dalit organisations had expressed displeasure over the court's decision and called for a Bharat Bandh. On April 2, 2018, there were violent protests in many parts. Six persons were killed in violent clashes in the Gwalior-Chambal division.
