Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had already made the decision to contest the Uttar Pradesh elections. Now there is news that Akhilesh will contest from Karhal seat of Mainpuri. Till now there were speculations that Akhilesh might come to the electoral fray from Gunnaur in Azamgarh, but today, putting an end to all the speculations, the SP has announced Akhilesh's seat.

Let us tell you that the former national president of the party, Mulayam Singh Yadav had also contested the first election from this assembly and reached the assembly after winning the election. Apart from this, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had taken education from Jain Inter College, Karhal and he was also a teacher here. Karhal is just 4 kilometers away from Mulayam Singh Yadav's village Saifai.

In the 2017 election from Karhal assembly seat, the Samajwadi Party expressed its confidence in Sovran Singh Yadav. Sovaran Singh Yadav, who entered the fray on Samajwadi Party ticket, defeated his nearest rival Rama Shakya of BJP by a huge margin of more than 40 thousand votes. The SP has occupied the Karhal assembly seat seven times. Baburam Yadav of Dalit Mazdoor Kisan Party was elected from this assembly seat in 1985, Samajwadi Janata Party (SJP) in 1989 and 1991 and Baburam Yadav MLA on Samajwadi Party ticket in 1993, 1996. In the 2000 by-elections, Anil Yadav of Samajwadi Party, Bharatiya Janata Party in 2002 and Sovran Singh Yadav were elected MLA on Samajwadi Party ticket in 2007, 2012 and 2017.
