Mumbai: The judicial custody of Nawab Malik, a minister in the Maharashtra government and veteran nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, has been extended till April 18 by a special PMLA court. However, the court has allowed them for home food and medicines. Earlier, malik's plea to provide him with a bed, mattress and chair during his judicial custody was also granted.
At the same time, Malik has challenged in the Supreme Court the Bombay High Court's order dismissing the interim petition seeking his immediate release. In the petition, filed on behalf of advocate Ankur Chawla, Malik has challenged the March 15 order of the high court bench. The Special Leave Petition (SLP) has been filed through advocate V D Khanna. Let us know that, the Bombay High Court had dismissed the petition seeking the immediate release of Nawab Malik. The high court had said that since the special PMLA court's order remanding them in custody is not in their favour, it does not make the order illegal or wrong.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Malik on February 23 this year under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) over a property deal allegedly related to fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim's aides. After his arrest, Malik had filed a habeas corpus petition claiming that his arrest by the ED and subsequent remand in custody was illegal.
