Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, who is embroiled in the Patra Chawl scam case in the country's financial capital Mumbai, has not got relief even today. A special court in Mumbai on Tuesday extended the judicial custody of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut till October 10. Now on October 10, Sanjay Raut's bail application will be heard. Sanjay Raut was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on August 1 in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl in Mumbai's Goregaon area.

The 60-year-old Rajya Sabha MP has been in jail since then. Not only this, the Enforcement Directorate had filed a supplementary charge sheet last month, in which Sanjay Raut was made a criminal in the case. The court took note of the supplementary charge sheet naming him as a criminal in a money laundering case. Sanjay Raut had moved the special court for Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) cases for bail.

Special Judge MG Deshpande had issued summons to all the perpetrators of the case, including Pravin Raut, an aide of the Shiv Sena MP, after taking cognisance of the prosecution's complaint. The Sena leader's bail hearing was cancelled till September 21 after his counsel said he wanted to study the charge sheet and take a decision to add additional grounds to his plea. The ED probe pertains to alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra 'Chawl' and transactions of financial assets belonging to Raut's wife and associates. Opposing Raut's bail plea, the Enforcement Directorate had last week told the court that he played a key role and worked "behind the scenes" in the money laundering case related to the Patra Chawl redevelopment. The ED had also refuted Raut's contention that the action against him was out of any malice or political vendetta.
