Washington: Trump described TVA chief executive Jeff Lyash's outsourcing decision as "disastrous and heartless". With Trump saying the board would have to remove Lyash. He also said that he is about to sack some board members, including Chairman James Thompson. After handing over a note during a White House event, Trump stated that he received a call from Lyash and the TVA chief announced the layoff. After which a "willingness to reverse course" was indicated. There was no response from TVA.

TVA's board also defined Trump earlier that last year it voted 6-1 to close a coal plant in Kentucky which the President told to keep open. Paradise Fossil Plant Unit 3 got most of its coal from mines operated by Robert Murray, a longtime and outspoken Trump supporter. Bill Johnson, the former TVA CEO, said the decision was about economics, and that rates were to be kept as low as possible.

The official said on condition of anonymity that Trump's new executive order required federal agencies to give preference to US residents and green card holders for contract positions, as they do for full-time roles. The order will also indicate a study to determine how many federal jobs are going to be held by foreign visa holders. The official also said that the Trump administration is working on other changes to the H-1B visa program, which could be announced in the coming weeks.
