New Delhi: Amid the devastation caused by corona infection (coronavirus) across the world, experts have made a big discovery on another infection spread from animals to humans, called the Rift Valley Fever (RVF) virus. A virologist from Kashmir has looked for the latest outbreak of the rift valley fever virus in human cells and has found out how the infection infects the body.

Dr Safder Ganaie found that RVF infection enters human cells through a protein. According to the report received, Dr Ganaie and his team found that rift valley fever (RVF) infection enters human cells through a protein that is normally involved in the removal of low-density lipoproteins, which carry bad cholesterol into the bloodstream. The discovery of Dr Ganaie and his team was recently published in the journal Cell.

According to the report, this finding is expected to move towards treatments that prevent Rift Valley Fever (RVF) or reduce its severity. The World Health Organization (WHO) has listed Rift Valley Fever as a priority disease, which is expected to cause an epidemic in the near future. The infection is spread by mosquitoes among pets, who later transmit it to humans.
