Big News: Sania enters grand slam semi-finals after 5 years

India's tennis star Sania Mirza, along with her Croatian partner Mate Pavic, defeated the mixed doubles pair of Gabriela Dabrowski and John Pierce to advance to the semi-finals of Wimbledon. The Sania-Mate pair defeated Australia's John Pierce and Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in the quarterfinals on Monday. With this win, Sania has made it to a Grand Slam semi-final after 5 years. Sania has reached the mixed doubles semi-finals of Wimbledon for the first time.

Prior to this, she lost in the quarterfinals of 2011, 2013 and 2015. Six-time Grand Slam winner Sania Mirza has won the mixed doubles titles of the 2009 Australian Open, the 2012 French Open and the 2014 US Open. In the semi-finals, the Indian-Croatian pair will face either Robert Farah-Jelena Ostapenko or Neil Scoopsky-Daisiere Krozki.  

Sania Mirza and Mate Pavich's India and Croatian pair of players reportedly advanced to the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles category at Wimbledon on Sunday. The sixth-ranked pair of Sania and Pavich has also been given a walkover from the duo of Ivan Dodig and Latheesha Chan in the second-round match.  

Sania and Pavitch had defeated the Spanish pair of David Vega Hernandez and Georgia's  Natala Zalmieze 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 in the opening round. The pair in the quarter-finals is going to face the Brazilian pair of Bruno Soares and Beatriz Haddad Maia or the Australian-Canadian pair of John Pier and Gabriella Dabrovsky. Sania has already announced that this is the last season of her career. In women's doubles, she lost in the opening round to Czech partner Lucy Hardeka.

Media reports say that it has also been revealed some time ago that with this win, the Sania-Ivan pair has come to the second round of the French Open. Sania, who won the Roland Garros in 2012 with Mahesh Bhupathi, is seen playing for the last time in this clay-court Grand Slam. She has announced his retirement after this tennis season. It may be recalled that the Indian tennis star will be seen facing Italy's Jasmine Paolini and Matirni Trevisan in the first round along with her Czechoslovakia teammate Lucy Hradeka on May 26.
