The Department of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has issued notification for regularizing the cases of services of central government personnel covered under the National Pension Scheme (NPS). The central government has given a great facility to its personnel. The central government personnel has been given the flexibility to avail of the old pension scheme except for the national pension system. The benefit can now be availed by 31st May 2021. Eligible personnel will have to apply by 5th May 2021 to avail of the old pension scheme. Government personnel who do not apply will continue to receive benefits under the provisions of the national pension system. The government employees availing pension benefits under CCS (pension) rules will continue to receive the benefits as before.
What is the case:-
Experts say that the old pension scheme is more profitable than NPS. The old scheme has more benefits. His family is also safe with the pensioner in the old scheme. If the missed employees get the benefit of OPS, it will secure their repayment.
Who will get the benefit:-
Due to the non-receipt of the benefit of the counseling of the past services under the old pension system between 1st January 2004 to 28th October 2009, the state Government employees were compelled to take voluntary retirement before appointment after 1st January 2004 and till 28th October 2009.
In such cases, the volunteers of the workers will be treated as technical retirement. Such government workers will also be given the benefit of the old pension scheme. However, they will have to fulfill all the other conditions required to take advantage of the counting of the past services.
The option of OPS will be availed by the personnel who were appointed before 1st January 2004 in railway pension rules or CCS (pension) rules, 1972 as well as other central institutions under the old pension scheme or state government departments or autonomous institutions under the old pension scheme like CCS (pension) rules.
