New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government is contemplating to give some relief to the common man from the inflation of petrol and diesel. Recently a report has come out that the Petroleum Ministry is in consultation with the Finance Ministry to reduce the excise duty on petrol and diesel. If this happens then there will be an immediate reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel in India.
The same central government had also reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel in November last year. At that time, the government had reduced petrol by Rs 5 per liter and diesel by Rs 10 per liter. The total excise duty on petrol is currently Rs 27.90 per liter and that on diesel is Rs 21.80. On April 11, the oil companies did not change the prices of petrol and diesel for the fifth consecutive day. However, between March 22 and April 6, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased by Rs 10 per liter. In such a situation, if the government decides to reduce the excise duty, then the common man will get relief from the inflation of petrol and diesel.
According to the data available on IOCL's portal, on Monday, petrol prices in Delhi are at Rs 105.41 per liter. The cost of a liter of diesel in the national capital is Rs 96.67. The price of petrol in Mumbai is Rs 120.51 per liter. At the same time, the price of one liter of diesel is Rs 104.77 per liter. In Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, the price of petrol is Rs 115.12 and the price of diesel is Rs 99.83 per liter. At the same time, the price of petrol in Chennai is Rs 110.85 per liter and the price of diesel is Rs 100.94 per liter.
