Patna: The Bihar Assembly on Friday (March 11) witnessed uproarious scenes over the assembly speaker continuing the House for prayers. The ruckus was triggered by Akhtarul Iman, MLA of Asaduddin Owaisi's party AIMIM, and Mehboob Alam of the Marxist Communist Party (CPM). Both the MLAs were demanding that the assembly be run till 12.30 pm on the day of Jumei. Congress and Lalu Prasad's RJD also supported the demand for these two MLAs.

According to media reports, Friday was the 10th day of the budget session. The Question Hour was going on in the afternoon. Meanwhile, Speaker Jai Kumar Sinha did not stop the proceedings of the House for Friday prayers. An angry CPM MLA from Balrampur Assembly Mehboob Alam and AIMIM MLA from Amour, Akhroul Iman, objected to this. Both cited the old tradition of closing the House at 12.30 pm on Jumei (Friday).

The demand for the duo was also supported by Congress MLA Vijay Shankar Dubey and RJD MLA Lalit Yadav. He also demanded the house to be closed at 12.30 pm. Amidst the uproar, the Speaker expressed his inability to stop the proceedings of the House saying that the time was short. He also said that the one who has to pray can go out of the House and read. The Speaker said, "Traditions and rules keep changing according to the times. The MLAs who are to offer Jumei prayers have already been given an opportunity to speak. However, even after the assembly speaker explained in many ways, the opposition continued to create a ruckus''.
