KATIHAR: In Bihar's Katihar district, an unusual incident occurred when a groom arrived late to his wedding, leading the bride to cancel the marriage. The bride's family then held the groom's parents hostage to recover their wedding expenses, demanding Rs 4 lakh from them. The incident took place in Kursela village, with the groom identified as Manjit Chowdhry, a resident of Sultanganj in Bhagalpur district.

The bride's side waited late into the night for the wedding procession to arrive at the marriage hall in Kursela, but it never showed up. Manjit's family members were eventually found in a car on the road, with Manjit unconscious and heavily intoxicated. When they were brought to the venue the next morning, Manisha, the bride, refused to marry him, citing his intoxicated state and her family's expenditure on the wedding.

The groom's family managed to pay the demanded amount, allowing them to leave the marriage hall. No police complaints were filed. Manjit claimed that friends forced him to consume something that made him sick, resulting in his intoxication. Manisha's brother refuted this claim, stating that Manjit was an alcoholic and that he didn't want to ruin his sister's life by marrying her to someone with such a problem.
