Patna: The water level of Gandak at Gopalganj in Bihar has definitely come down amidst corona crisis but the problems of the individuals have not subsided. Many people have been forced to demolish their houses due to erosion of gandak here. Babu Jan Ansari is demolishing his house in Ward No.4 of Jagiri Tola Panchayat in Gopalganj block. It is a two-storey edifice which was constructed 4 or 5 years ago at a cost of lakhs of rupees, but the floods in Gandak have destroyed everything.
The people of this village were surrounded by the Gandak river for the last 10 days. It has become difficult for people to live here in the floods. There is no electricity or drinking water, so now Babu Jan Ansari's family members are demolishing this house. But now this house is collapsing. Every brick of the house is being pulled out so that they can build their houses elsewhere.
At the same time, people have made up their mind to take every brick of this house to a higher place. It is because of compulsion that a house built with great reverence has to be demolished, but where to go, where to live. Now, they don't even have a place to do it. Apart from Babu Jan Ansari of Ward No.4, many people have also left their houses. They have left their homes and fled even before the floods hit them. If anything, the house or the floodwater or the fast flowing water stream of the nearby Gandak river. That is what has created a difficult situation for the people which is very difficult to deal with.
