Patna: According to a Home Ministry official, a DIG rank officer has been suspended on suspicion of extorting money from his subordinates. The ministry issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday night, finding Shafi-Ul-Haq guilty of alleged corruption. The notification was based on a report made on Tuesday by the state's Economic Offence Wing.

According to the Economic Offence Wing report, Haq was assigned to the Munger region as the DIG before June of this year. He was involved in extortion with junior officers of the police department during his time in Munger. He also had a trusted officer named Mohamad Umran, a Munger police sub-inspector. Umran had employed an agent to extort money from the department's younger staff.

An inquiry was conducted based on multiple allegations against him, and the claims were proven to be genuine. As a result, on June 19, 2021, he was transferred to Patna police headquarters. He was also the liable for investigation by the Economic Offence Wing,

After being transferred from Munger on June 19, Haq waited for a posting until his suspension notification was not issued. During his suspension, the Home Ministry has ordered him to report to the Patna range IGP office.
