Bihar government extends COVID curbs till June first week

The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar on Monday announces the Covid-induced lockdown to continue till June 8. Kumar said that some rules will be eased to allow businesses to operate wherever cases are low.

Amid the battle against the second wave of the novel coronavirus the race of rising cases has slow down. The chief minister has also specified that relaxations will be given despite lockdown-like curbs. The CM, in a series of tweets, said that the restrictions will continue for a week with several relaxations, moving gradually towards further relaxation. Kumar tweeted in Hindi?In view of Covid-19 situation, it has been decided to extend the lockdown by one week. But additional exemption is being given for trade. Everyone should wear masks and maintain social distance.? In the meeting it was considered that normal life and business activities which came to a grinding halt in the state will be started. The current phase of lockdown was set to end on June 1.

The state has been under lockdown since May 5, the COVID-19 restrictions were later extended by the state government on May 13 and May 24. Meanwhile, on Sunday, Bihar reported 1,475 fresh COVID-19 cases and 52 deaths, as per the state health department data. Currently, the number of actives cases in the state is less than 20,000. The number of fatalities registered so far in the state has risen to 5104 on Sunday.
