Patna: The state government has given a big relief to the farmers. The farmers are also going to be given a grant on diesel for irrigation of other Kharif crops including paddy. A decision on this has been taken at the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday. A subsidy of Rs 60 per litre of diesel is also going to be given to the farmers. A maximum grant of 10 litres of diesel i.e. 600 rupees is going to be provided on one acre of land.

Actually, in view of situations like erratic monsoon and drought, this decision is going to be taken by the government. For this, 29 crores 95 lakh rupees have been approved by the government. The Chief Secretary has said that a subsidy of Rs 60 per litre of diesel is going to be given for irrigation of Kharif crops. Irrigation of one acre of land is estimated to be about 10 litres. Accordingly, a grant of Rs 600 per acre is going to be provided for the irrigation of Kharif crops. A farmer will also get a grant on a maximum of five acres of land.

A grant at the rate of Rs. 1200 per acre is also going to be paid by the government for 2 irrigations of the jute crop. Apart from this, a grant of Rs 1800 is going to be provided thrice at the rate of Rs 600 per acre for three irrigations of other Kharif Safal including paddy, and maize. This will bring great relief to the farmers. Paddy cultivation has not started in most of the districts of Bihar due to a lack of rain this time. Due to a lack of irrigation, the fields have cracked. In view of this, the government has decided to give grants.
