Patna: Police has taken 2 smugglers into custody in Patna. Police said that 2 smugglers were apprehended from the Royal Orbit Hotel in Rajendra Nagar on Thursday. The rare species of lizard Tokay Giko has been found. It is said that this rare species of lizard was brought from West Bengal. Both the smugglers were keen to sell the lizard. It was reported to the Forest Divisional Officer (DFO). They conducted raids and arrested both the smugglers.

Police said that "Investigation has revealed that smugglers have also made a deal of lizard of rare species for 25 lakhs. The deal was fixed in a closed room hotel. Just waiting for the money to come. Meanwhile, raids have been conducted by the police team and armed police force formed by Patna Forest Division. Among the raids, the rare species of 4 Tokay Giko was seized from the smugglers. In the international market, the value of this lizard is said to be around one crore. Two smugglers were caught from the scene while the two smugglers who came along escaped.

Forest Division officer Ruchi Singh said that the two smugglers in custody are residents of Katihar. The raids are related to forest officers, forest pal, forest guard as well as the constable under inspector Avinash Kumar and other armed police forces of Patrakar Nagar police station. The rare species of lizard has been recovered and the team is taking necessary legal action against the arrested smugglers.
