Patna: The Nitish government appeared on the backfoot amid allegations and opposition siege over the removal of JP and Lohia's views from JP university syllabus. The VC and registrar of the university were summoned to the Patna secretariat on Thursday. After several hours of meeting, Education Minister Vijay Chaudhary himself appeared before the media and said that the decision to remove JP and Lohia's views from the syllabus was only unfair but also not followed the general tradition.

The same Education Minister Vijay Chaudhary said that it is an established belief that any rules, regulations, ordinances (including courses) relating to universities in Bihar are implemented only after the consent of the Bihar State Council of Higher Education of the Government. But this has not been followed in this case which has been taken very seriously by the Government.

The Minister said that in 2018, in the run-up to the new education policy, a Committee was constituted under CBCS at the level of Chancellor (Governor) which had proposed revision of courses. The proposal was sent to all universities through the Chancellor. It should have been reviewed at the university level, which did not happen. The Education Minister said that even under CBCS, it is beyond his comprehension that jp and Lohia's ideas are excluded from the curriculum. In Bihar, JP is associated with public sentiment, Bihar has been the land of socialism and communism.
