Bharatiya Janata Party has named Biplab Kumar Deb as the chief ministerial candidate after a meeting with all the elected MLAs at state guesthouse in Agartala in the recently concluded Tripura state assembly elections. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced his name at the meeting. Biplab Kumar Deb is the BJP state president for Tripura.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also thanked the people of Tripura for their support to BJP in the state assembly elections. BJP had won 35 out of the 59 seats in Tripura.

Biplab Kumar Deb announced Jishnu Deb Burman’s name as the deputy chief minister soon after the announcement. In a statement to media, Burman assured to take Tripura on a new path of development along with the CM and other MLAs.

BJP had swept off the 25 year old left rule in an unprecedented victory in Tripura. Two days after the historic win, BJP workers allegedly attacked CPM offices and demolished a statue of Lenin in Belonia town in south Tripura. Four other violence-related complaints were lodged in various parts of the state. Section 144 has been imposed in some areas of the state following the violence which restricts an assembly of four or more than four people.
