Bird flu found at Ludhiana's poultry farm, panel to oversee situation

The district authorities in Ludhiana scrambled to detect samples from a poultry farm tested positive for bird flu. The authorities formed a panel for a culling and containment operations.

The National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal confirmed that the samples. The samples taken were from a poultry farm at Qila Raipur, about 25 km from Ludhiana were infected with bird flu, PTI reported. The Punjab government has notified the poultry farm as an infected area, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma. While to keep an eye on the culling exercise a committee has been led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarkartar Singh. Sharma said the committee will ensure that no live or dead bird, unprocessed poultry meat, eggs, feeds or any other material taken out and brought into the poultry farm.

Meanwhile the state recorded as many as 171 facilitates from coronavirus in Punjab on Saturday. Daily spike of 9100 case pushing its infection tally to 433689. So far, the infection has killed 10315 people in the state. 19 deaths reported from Ludhiana, 17 each from Bathinda and Muktsar, 13 each from Amritsar and Patiala and 11 each from Sangrur and Jalandhar.
