Delhi zoo samples 4 positives for bird flu again

New Delhi: Avian influenza virus infection has been found in four serological specimens of bird's beet collected from Delhi Zoo. Authorities have given information about this on Tuesday. The National Zoological Park (NZP) in Delhi, the country's capital, said that the specimens in which the infection was found were collected from four different locations in the zoo.

These samples were sent by the Delhi Department of Animal Husbandry (AHD) to the National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal on 3 February. NZP said in an official statement that all security measures are being taken and the zoo will remain closed. The NZP stated that all safety measures and protocols related to avian influenza of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), Ministry of Environment, and AHD, Government of Delhi, are being strictly followed and continuously monitored by a team of regional staff and veterinarians at the zoo is being done.

According to media reports, birds in cages and birds flying in the open are behaving normally. All the steps to disinfect it are being taken regularly. The director of the zoo Ramesh Pandey said that monitoring would continue and the collected samples would be sent for further serological investigation. Further, he said that the zoo is already closed and it will remain closed. Earlier, on January 19, six serological specimens from the National Zoological Park at NIHSAD, Bhopal were found infected with the avian influenza virus.
