Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the author of India's national song 'Vande Mataram', is known to the children of the country. Apart from India, he is also famous for his works abroad. He was born on June 27, 1838 in Kanthalpara, Bengal, in a Bengali Brahmin family. Bankim ji used to come from an educated family. His father was in government service, who later became deputy collector of Midnapore in Bengal. Bankim Chandra was very interested in reading and writing since childhood. However, one of the special reasons why he liked Sanskrit more than English was that once he was beaten up by his English teacher at school for not coming to English, Bankim Chandra got irritated with English.

Bankim Chandra ji completed his schooling at a government school in Midnapore. Bankim was brilliant since childhood. He first wrote poetry during his school days. He was ahead in studies as well as sports. His identity at school was as a brilliant and hardworking student. Bankimchandra ji studied college at Hooghly Mohsin College, then graduated in arts in 1858. He passed the law test and got his degree. Bankim's composition 'Anandmath' became the most popular, with Bankimchandra ji writing the song 'Vandemataram' for the first time. Which further became the national song of the country in 1937.

Bankim ji was fond of writing since childhood. He considered Ishwar Chandra Gupta ji as his role model, following his path, he also started his literary journey by writing poetry. In 1865, Bankim Chandra ji wrote and published his first novel in Bengali, called 'Durgeshnandini'.  Bankim ji was married in just 11 years, when his wife was only 5 years old. His wife passed away after 11 years of marriage. When Bankim ji was 22 years old. Bankim Chandra ji then married Rajalakshmi Devi for the second time, from whom she had three daughters. Bankim ji died in Calcutta, Bengal on April 8, 1894, soon after he retired from his work in just 55 years.
