Kapil Sibal, a veteran Congress leader and lawyer by profession, is the Information Technology and Law and Justice Minister in the Union Cabinet. Sibal is currently an MP from Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency in Delhi. Hindi has also held the post of President of the Institute.  Kapil Sibal was born on August 8, 1948 in Jalandhar, Punjab. Kapil Sibal's father's name is Hira Lal Sibal and his mother's name is Kailash Rani. Kapil Sibal's father Hira Lal Sibal, a well-known lawyer, was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2006.

Kapil Sibal moved to Delhi in 1964 and passed the MA in history from St. Stephen's College, LLB from Delhi University, an LLM from Harvard Law School in 1977. He passed the prestigious Civil Services Examination but chose his career in law. Joined the Law Class (Bar) in 1972 and was nominated as a senior lawyer in 1983. Sibal was an additional solicitor general of India between 1989 and 1990. Kapil Sibal married Neena Sibal on April 13, 1973. He has two sons Amit and Akhil, who have studied at Cambridge University and are practicing advocacy in India with degrees from prestigious Harvard and Stanford University.

Sibal is one of the most expensive lawyers in the country and is seen cross-examination in most cases of Congress. Sibal had also fought on behalf of the Sunni Waqf Board in the Supreme Court in the country's much talked about Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid case. It was Congress leader Kapil Sibal who had described Shri Ram, who had been the adorable of the People of India for centuries in the Supreme Court, as imaginary. In fact, at the time of UPA-2, when Congress was trying to break Ram Setu, Sibal had made a statement on behalf of the Congress government in the Supreme Court that there was no such thing as Ram Setu, it was a blank imagination.  On the other hand, Kapil Sibal defended the three Talaq in the Supreme Court, terming them as a matter of 1400 years old practice and faith.
