Under Rule 10 of the HR&CE Act, 1959, there is a provision that all the officers and employees appointed to carry out the functions provided under this law will follow Hinduism, otherwise, their job will be lost.

Hearing the PIL on the matter, a bench of Justices MM Sundaresh and Justice Krishnan said that what applies to the lower class employees also applies to the employees working at higher levels.
