In the midst of the Corona crisis, India has started an investigation after complaints of alleged dumping of flat products made of copper used in the auto and electrical industry imported from China, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Agrawal Metal Works Private Limited, a domestic manufacturer, had filed an application before the investigation branch DGTR of the Ministry of Commerce for an anti-dumping investigation on the import of flat products of imported copper and copper alloys from these six countries. The applicant has alleged dumping of goods from these countries and requested to implement anti-dumping duties on imports.

In its statement, the DGTR has said in a notification that on the basis of prima facie evidence submitted by the applicant, the authority starts an investigation here. In this investigation, the directorate will investigate the existence of any alleged dumping and its effect in relation to the products under consideration in six countries.

Further the notification further stated that, 'if it is found that dumping has occurred and it is affecting the domestic manufacturers, then the amount of anti-dumping duty will be recommended. This amount will be sufficient to compensate the loss caused to the domestic industry. Please tell here that the DGTR recommends the duty and the Finance Ministry implements them. Here the period of investigation is January 2019 to December 2019 i.e. 12 months. It will also consider the data for April 2016-19.
