On Sunday, actress-turned-politician Hema Malini kickstarted her Lok Sabha 2019 election campaign by visiting women in the farms of Govardhan Kshetra. Sickle in hand, the BJP candidate from Mathura constituency took part in daily chores to understand the needs of locals here. It is to be noted that Malini took the opportunity to meet with local women in Govardhan Kshetra and interacted with them about their needs and aspirations. She also helped them with their work in a bid to connect with them.

However, it is to be noted that the veteran actress is reaching out to people in the Mathura constituency in a bid to once again win the Lok Sabha election from here. In 2014, she had defeated Rashtriya Lok Dal candidate Jayant Chaudhary decisively. Malini had joined BJP in 2004 and would now be hoping to reach out to the people of Mathura for a favourable result in the upcoming election, despite her celebrity status as an actress. In her affidavit to the Election Commission, she declared assets worth over Rs 101 crore with a rise of Rs 34.46 crore in the last five years.

It is worth mentioning here that Mathura constituency will vote in the second phase - on April 18. Similar to the last elections, Hema is again being cornered by the Opposition for being an "outsider" and not a native of Mathura. Though Hema Malini asserts that she has a house in Mathura and she's a Virndavanwasi, the SP-BSP-RLD candidate Narendra Singh has targeted her saying that time the elections will see an "outsider vs Brijwasi" contest.

Hema Malini has told "I am so involved with the city and I feel some divine connection with this city. I have been playing Radha and Meera throughout my life and I was in a temple only when my candidature was announced,". According to Hema Malini, BJP has been able to get work done in the constituency after the party formed government in the state. Hema said "I really feel hurt when someone asks 'apne kya kaam kiya?' (what work did you do). The first two years were difficult as I could not communicate (with the people). But in the last two years I was able to get things done with the support of the Centre and the state government,".
