Raipur: Chhattisgarh CM and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of conspiring to postpone the elections. Not only that, but he also put the credibility of the elected Commission in the dock. He said the Election Commission is going to meetings being convened by PMO nowadays.

According to media reports, Bhupesh Baghel said that there are only a few cases of Omicron today. Is the BJP plotting to postpone the elections? There is a lot of speculation. The credibility of the Election Commission as an independent body is questionable nowadays as they are going to the meeting convened by the PMO. Baghel raised these questions at a time when discussions are on to postpone assembly elections in five states early next year. The Election Commission (EC) is on a three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh. The Election Commission will also hold meetings with political parties and other stakeholders to take stock of the situation ahead of the much-awaited UP elections in 2022.

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra along with a team of Election Commission officials arrived in Lucknow on Monday where he will hold a meeting with the superintendent of police and SSP of all districts. During his visit, EC will also hold meetings with senior officials and district magistrates from 75 districts of UP. Through this meeting, the Commission will get election feedback. Based on this feedback, the Commission can take any decision on the conduct of elections. The Allahabad High Court had recently appealed to the PM and the Election Commission to postpone the elections in view of the corona threat.
