Kolkata: Demanding postponement of the upcoming bypoll to Bhowanipore assembly constituency in West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Vice President Dilip Ghosh has said that there is no justification for holding elections if the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led state government cannot hold fair elections.

Dilip Ghosh was reportedly attacked by TMC workers while campaigning for the Bhowanipore bypoll. Ghosh then said that the election should be held when the Election Commission is able to provide security to the candidates and voters of the Bhowanipore constituency. Till then, the elections should be cancelled. He further said, "The Election Commission is aware of everything. We have complained to them several times in Delhi and Kolkata. Despite this, no security arrangements were made.'' Ghosh further said, "If we cannot reach the voters, there is no point in holding elections. People are constantly living in fear.''

Ghosh again said, "If an MP is being attacked, I cannot imagine that an ordinary citizen will come to vote. The election should be cancelled because fair voting cannot be held here.'' Earlier on Monday, Ghosh alleged that Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers attacked and misbehaved with him while campaigning for the Bhowanipore bypoll. He also alleged that one of the BJP workers who accompanied him during the election campaign was also beaten up.
