Kolkata: BJP's prominent leader Subramanian Swamy has met West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee at the Kolkata Secretariat on Thursday (August 18, 2022). Describing Mamata as a courageous and charismatic leader, Swamy tweeted about the meeting. Sharing a picture of their meeting, he wrote, ''Today I was in Kolkata. There I met the courageous and charismatic leader Mamata Banerjee. I praised her fight against the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM), which had wiped out the Communists.''

Since then, discussions have started in political corridors about Swamy joining TMC. However, BJP leaders in the past have denied such reports. He had said that there was no need for him to join TMC, as he was already with Mamata Banerjee. He has praised the TMC supremo on several occasions in the past. On July 1, 2022, he described Mamata as an intelligent leader and said, "We have to recognize talent even if there are ideological differences.''

In November last year, Subramanian Swamy met TMC chief Mamata Banerjee. This meeting of both leaders was held in Delhi. At that time, he had tweeted comparing the TMC supremo with JP (Jayaprakash Narayan), Morarji Desai, Rajiv Gandhi, Chandrashekhar and PV Narasimha Rao. In this tweet, Swamy had said that Mamata Banerjee has all the qualities of big leaders.
