Lucknow: As assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh draw near, the war of words between the opposition and the ruling party has also intensified. The opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) has opened a front against the Uttar Pradesh police and the administration after the elections for Zilla panchayat president and block chief. Former CM and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said he did not trust the police.

UP government minister Swami Prasad Maurya has reacted sharply to former CM Akhilesh's statement. Swami Prasad Maurya, who arrived in Kushinagar to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Zilla panchayat president, has launched a scathing attack on former CM Akhilesh Yadav. He criticized Akhilesh for his statement that he did not trust the police and described the SP as a supporter of goons, criminals. Talking to media persons, Swami Prasad Maurya said that the SP has been synonymous with goons, mafias, criminals in the past and it is still there today.

Tell me, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said he did not believe in the UP police. He said that a leader who has been the CM of the state and under whom the police have been and have been working with the same police, should today say that he does not believe in this Police. Maurya said that so this simply means that the SP has always flouted the rule of law.
