NEW DELHI: On September 2, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be officially enrolled as the first member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by the party's President, J.P. Nadda. This marks the beginning of the BJP's nationwide membership drive aimed at expanding its reach across India.

BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde explained that renewing the memberships of current members is a constitutional requirement when launching a new membership drive. This process ensures that both new and existing members reaffirm their commitment to the party.

Tawde also highlighted that the membership drive is more than just a recruitment effort; it's a strategic move to spread the party’s ideology and inform the public about the government’s achievements. “Our main goal is to promote BJP’s ideology and update citizens about the progress our government has made,” Tawde said.

The BJP’s membership drive comes as the party continues to hold the title of the world's largest political party. Previously, the Communist Party of China held this title, but in 2014, the BJP surpassed it with an impressive 110 million members.

A national team led by Vinod Tawde, the National General Secretary, has been created to manage the campaign. This team will oversee the formation of state, district, and mandal teams, as well as various morchas and cells, with an emphasis on media, social media, and IT coordination.

The membership drive will be carried out in two phases: from September 2 to September 25, and from October 1 to October 15. Each phase will focus on achieving specific goals to ensure thorough coverage across the country.
