BJP MLA seeks land found in government scheme, 4 farmers consume poison

Haveri: In Haveri, Karnataka, 4 farmers have tried to indulge themselves by consuming poison. All four have been admitted to the hospital. It is alleged that bjp MLA Nehru Olekar was harassing them in a land-related matter. In fact, this incident is related to a land dispute. Land was allotted to the farmers under a scheme (Akrama Sakrama Scheme) by the government. Where the incident took place, 29 persons of the village got land. Each farmer was allotted 1 acre of 15 gunthas of land.  

It is alleged that out of the land given to the farmers by the government, BJP MLA Nehru Olekar was demanding some part. It is alleged that the MLAs were demanding 5 gunthas of land from each farmer at very low prices. The farmers staged a sit-in protest against the demand of the BJP MLA and refused to give the land. It is alleged that on the refusal of the farmers, the BJP MLA and his family started harassing the farmers. Even the survey officer was not allowed to go to the farm. In addition, the workers were also warned not to work on the farm.  

It is alleged that upset over these circumstances, 70-year-old Pandappa Lamani, 72-year-old Guruchappa Lamani, 65-year-old Gangwa Kabur and 41-year-old Hanumanthappa took the step of killing themselves by consuming poison in their farm. All of them were then admitted to the hospital. The SP of Haveri said that the police had received a tip-off that 4 persons consumed poison, after which, they were immediately admitted to the hospital. They are all farmers and the land belongs to them. These people have consumed poisonous pesticides and are now being treated. "We are talking to eyewitnesses and recording their statements. The complaint has been registered and investigation is on. We're trying to find out what really happened.
