New Delhi: On Friday, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi has filed a contempt plea against Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his remarks against PM Narendra Modi after the recent Supreme Court verdict in the Rafale deal. The SC has agreed to hear the plea on April 15. In her plea, Lekhi accused Gandhi of misusing the SC verdict and replacing the words of the apex court by his own words and added that it is not permissible as per the law and is strictly a contempt of court.

Here it is to be noted that the petition has been filed under Section 15 read, rule 3C. Rahul Gandhi had alleged that even the SC has agreed that ‘chowkidar chor hai’ and that Ambani has been paid Rs 30,000 crore. “This is completely bereft of facts. This is coming from a person in whose adult family there 4 adult members and out of 4 3 are on bail. So people who are themselves corrupt are making this accusation is one part which we can fight at any public platform but dragging the SC in this battle is uncalled for,” said Lekhi.

In addition to her comment, she further said that the petition was filed on an urgent basis because elections are underway and because there is an attempt to influence the voters. This development comes after the SC on Wednesday rejected the preliminary objections raised by the Centre and said that it will hear the Rafale review petitions on merits. The court will also look into the published document filed by former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, journalist Arun Shourie and lawyer Prashant Bhushan.

However, after the verdict, the Congress accused PM Narendra Modi and the BJP-led Central government of "misleading" the Supreme Court over Rafale deal and said that it will order a JPC probe to look into the matter after it “returns to power on May 23”. Addressing the press conference Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that investigation is required to book "the real culprits" and added that only a JPC probe will identify "the real culprits".
