New Delhi: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has demanded the removal of Shashi Tharoor as Congress MP and chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT matters and the abolition of his (Tharoor's) membership of Parliament. Dubey has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker demanding this. Nishikant Dubey has demanded termination of membership under the provisions of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

MP Nishikant Dubey has alleged that Tharoor has tarnished the image of Parliament and the Government of India. According to Dubey, Tharoor named Corona the Indian variant, while WHO himself calls it B.1.617. He said that it is incomprehensible how an Indian MP can use such an unscientific and derogatory word towards Indians. The Government of India has directed all social media platforms to remove the word Indian variant, even after Tharoor used it.

Nishikant further said that while the Standing Committee is an extension of Parliament, Tharoor has made the committee an extension of the Congress party. He is more concerned about the party and Rahul Gandhi's agenda than the country's agenda. Dubey said the toolkit is seeking clarification from the IT ministry in the controversy, while Twitter's action is against the country. The matter is with the investigating agencies and the IT Committee can neither affect the government's action nor affect the day-to-day functioning of the government.
