Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP office-bearer Balachander was killed by an unidentified gang in Chennai late on Tuesday evening. After being injured in the attack, he was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Balachander, who was the Chennai Central district secretary of the BJP's Scheduled Castes wing.

An official from Chintadripet police station in Chennai said all the higher authorities are investigating the case. "The murder took place inside a lane which was away from the main road. It's too early for us to give us any information. We are gathering information. A BJP leader said the murder took place between 6 pm and 7 pm. "We were told that it was an internal family issue that led to the murder. According to media reports, the incident took place around 7.30 pm in Chintadripet when Balachander was at a shop. Before pelting stones, unidentified gang members attacked him and fled the spot.

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai, on the other hand, launched a scathing attack, criticising the law and order situation under the DMK regime. He tweeted: "There is no security for anyone here. The government is inactive and the police is of no use to the general public. The police should immediately find and arrest the killers. '
