New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the opposition BJP while discussing Delhi's education model. In a controversial statement, he said the BJP is a party of illiterates and wants to keep the country illiterate. Sisodia further said that Delhi government schools are better than many private schools. Sisodia was reacting to the Lieutenant Governor's (LG)  seeking a report from the Chief Secretary on the delay in taking action on the CVC report regarding the probe into the construction of additional classrooms in Delhi government schools.

Deputy CM Sisodia said that the BJP has now started a new story that there has been a scam in building schools. They conducted a CBI raid on my house but did not express what was found there. The world knows that Delhi has great schools. They are conspiring to somehow close the government schools here. He said "The BJP has closed many government schools in its own ruling states. They should investigate why so many government schools were closed under his government.''

Manish Sisodia, who is facing a CBI probe in the liquor scam, said that more than 72000 schools were closed between 2015-2021. In 2018-19 alone, more than 51,000 schools were closed. Private schools are flourishing in areas where the BJP is closing government schools, those private schools have been built by their own MLAs. About 12000 private schools have been opened.
