MADIKERI: The Karnataka arms training camp issue has taken a turn, with the governing BJP government transferring the investigative officer purportedly for issuing notices to Bajrang Dal and school authorities in the matter.

On Wednesday, Afsar Kodlipet, State General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), questioned whether it is tenable to transfer an honest police officer for issuing notices to the organisers and school authorities who gave arms training to the ruling BJP and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. This makes it clear that the ruling government supported the Madikeri armaments camp training. "Withhold the transfer order and an impartial inquiry if you vouch to be honest," Afsar Kodlipet asked.

Jayaram S.M. Circle Inspector of Gonikoppa Circle in Madikeri district was transferred by the police department on Tuesday. He's been transferred to the Karnataka Lokayukta.

The transfer has sparked criticism and debate. Regarding arms training and trishul distribution, the Popular Front of India (PFI) has filed a complaint against former speaker and BJP MLA K.G. Bopaiah, BJP MLC Suja Kushalappa, and Bajrang Dal officials.

Meanwhile, the authorities at the Kodagu school, where the purported weaponry training camp was held, have disputed that such a camp was held. A report from the school has also been requested by the education department. The training camp, however, did not take place on the school grounds, according to the school administration.
