Kolkata: A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reached the Election Commission on Friday amid the heat of the assembly elections in West Bengal. During this period, the BJP has demanded a central observer in the Bengal elections. It also demanded the deployment of central security forces during the upcoming elections in Bengal.

BJP-nominated Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta said that the delegation conveyed its apprehensions about the possible misuse of the provisions that allow disabled people over 80 years of age and voters to cast votes through postal ballots. According to the news agency PTI, the BJP delegation instead requested to provide special facilities for such people in polling stations.

In view of the Corona crisis last year, the Election Commission had made a provision that people with disabilities above 80 years of age can vote through the post. Swapan Dasgupta targeted the Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal and said that the ruling Trinamool Congress could misuse such a provision. The party's delegation, which reached the Election Commission, included BJP national general secretary Bhupendra Yadav, state heads Dilip Ghosh and Swapan Dasgupta, among others.
