NEW DELHI: Janata Dal chief HD Deve Gowda on Wednesday got sentimental as he declared that his grandson Prajwal Revanna would be the candidate from Karnataka's Hassan. Prajwal Revanna additionally began to cry as he saw his grandfather in tears. As pictures of the grandfather-grandson pair were sprinkled across local TV channels, the opposition BJP dismissed the public display of emotion, tweeting "First Drama for the 2019 elections starts now".

The Congress and Janata Dal -alliances in Karnataka - have arrived at a 20-8 seats sharing agreement. The JD(S's) share includes Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Hasan, Mandya, Bengaluru North, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru and Vijayapura.

Hassan and Mandya are considered JD(S) strongholds, in spite of the fact that the leader' plan to handle two grandsons of HD Deve Gowda - Prajwal Revanna and Nikhil Kumaraswamy - in these seats has caused disappointment inside the party. HD Deve Gowda on Wednesday launched the survey campaign of Prajwal Revanna, in the midst of allegations that he was rehearsing dynasty politics.

"...so many allegations, from the morning in the media (they talk about) Devegowda, Revanna, Kumaraswamy and their children’s," HD Deve Gowda said as he cleaned tears from his face. Conversing with the media later, he responded to social media campaign "Go back Nikhil", launched to contradict his grandson's candidature in Mandya.

"It was the decision of JD(S) leaders to field Nikil from Mandya. I had not declared. I'm deeply pained, they are stating Nikhil Go Back..." he was cited by news organization PTI. “"...I will go to Mandya... let them shout go back...for whom I fought in the last 60 years, I will place everything before the people of Mandya,” he included.

The opposition has asserted that JDS workers were disregarded for party tickets for Lok Sabha election to clear a path for HD Deve Gowda's family. In the meantime, BJP slammed HD Gowda and his family saying they were master in the”Art of Crying”.
